Arthur Barnett Cup
This cup was presented to the Club by Arthur Barnett Esquire in 1952 and was first won by Monty Butterfield. The competition is a Single Stableford. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on countback.
Bruntsfield Medal
In 1873, Mr WD Murison presented the Bruntsfield Medal to the Dunedin Golf Club. The medal is still presented annually to the golfer scoring the best two gross rounds in the 36-hole Club Championship qualifying play. In the event of a tie the players involved shall play off over 18 holes stoke play on a day scheduled by the match committee to determine a winner.
Captain’s Trophy
The trophy was presented to the Club in 1967 by Jock Robertson and played as a medal round. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on countback.
Centennial Medal
This medal was presented to the Club in 1971 by Dr NH North as part of the Club's Centennial celebrations. It was designed by David North and played as a medal. In the event of a tie the players involved shall play off over 18 holes stoke play on a day scheduled by the match committee to determine a winner.
Centennial Silver Salver
Presented to the Club by the Otago Ladies Golf Club as part of the Centennial celebrations in 1971 and played as a single par. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on countback.
Haggitt Cup
This cup was presented to the Club in 1929 by AN Haggitt who was Club Captain in 1929-1930 and again in 1938-1939. This is a premier trophy played as a single handicap knock-out competition.
Mitchell Cup
Presented to the Club in 1929 by the then Club President Fred Mitchell Esquire. This is played as a greensome foursome par. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on countback.
Northsiders Cup
This cup is played for by right handers only and is played on the same day as the Southpaw Cup. It is a Single Stableford competition. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on countback.
Kenneth Ross Memorial
This Combined Stableford trophy was presented by AG Sime Senior in 1943 in memory of Kenneth Ross, a multiple winner of the Club Championships and a very popular member of the Club. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on countback.
JA Scouler Trophy
JA Scouler was appointed a Life Member of the Club in 1972 after giving many years of service. The trophy was presented in 1975 to be played as an American Foursomes. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on countback.
Smeaton Cup
This cup was presented to the Club in 1950 by JW Smeaton at the conclusion of his term as Club President. It was played as a Four Ball knock-out competition and is another much sought-after trophy.
Southpaw Cup
This cup is played for by left handers and is a single par competition. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on countback.
St Andrew's Cross
This is the oldest golfing trophy in the Southern Hemisphere. It was presented to the Club by the founder, Charles Ritchie Howden, in 1872 for annual competition on St Andrew’s Day. In the event of a tie the players involved shall play off over 18 holes stoke play on a day scheduled by the match committee to determine a winner.
Telfer Medal
Presented to the Dunedin Golf Club in 1875, by John Telfer. It was first won outright on 2nd January, 1875, by Professor John Shand, one of the three original professors of Otago University. Played as a medal round. In the event of a tie the players involved shall play off over 18 holes stoke play on a day scheduled by the match committee to determine a winner.
Veterans' Cup
This cup was presented to the Club in 1935 by H Brash for competition by members over the age of 50. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on countback.
WG Wight Memorial
WG Wight was a former Club Champion and a popular member of the Club Executive. The trophy played as a Stableford competition. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on countback.
Women
Margaret Irwin Trophy
Presented by the family of Mrs M Irwin (Club Captain) in 1975 when she was killed in a road accident. A Stableford competition played for by the midweek and weekend players on their opening day.
Marie Theomin Cup
Marie Theomin was a founding member of the Otago Ladies Golf Club. Presented by Miss D Theomin in 1927 who was awarded Life membership in 1947. Played as a knock-out competition on handicap by midweek players.
Ada Jack Cup
Presented in 1932. Played as a knock-out competition on handicap by the midweek players
Marinoto Cup
Presented by the Sargood Family in the early 1900s. Played as a flag medal competition against par by midweek players.
Shand Cup
Presented by Miss K Shand in 1958 who was awarded Life membership in 1975. Separate Silver and Bronze competition played as a knock-out competition on handicap by the midweek players.
D Hay Trophy
Presented by Mrs D Hay in 1975. A Stableford competition played by both Silver and Bronze players in the midweek section over five rounds. The best three scores count.
Esther Burrowes
Presented in the memory of Mrs E Burrowes in 1994, she was awarded Life membership in 1966. A Stableford competition played by Bronze players over five rounds. The best three scores count.
Leach Cup
Presented by Mrs Leach in 1965. A Stableford completion played by weekend or midweek players 60 years and over.
Alex Sime One Putt Cup
Presented by Mrs Sime in 1974 in memory of her late husband who was a phenomenal putter. Played as a medal round by the weekend players.
Pat Fels Salver
Presented by Mrs P Fels in 1960. Played as a knock-out competition on handicap by weekend players.
Helen Ross Salver
Presented by Mrs H Ross in 1964, she was awarded Life membership in 1984. A Stableford competition. Played annually between weekend and midweek players.
Julie Simpson Trophy
Presented by J Simpson in 1980. A Stableford competition played by both Silver and Bronze players in the weekend section over five rounds, the best three scores count.
Doris McHutcheson Cup
Presented by Mrs D McHutcheson in 1955, she was awarded a Life membership in 1952. First played in 1933 as a tournament between Country Clubs and City Clubs in the month of May. The format has changed over the years and it is now played as a Gross Nett and Stableford Tournament. The best nett over the field is presented with the cup. This is the only remaining tournament in the mid-week programme.
Veterans Trophies
T Tyrell Trophy
Presented by his family in 1995 in his memory and is played for annually as a 4BBB Stableford. Trevor become a Full Playing member of the Club in 1933, and won the Senior Club Champs in 1937, 38, 57 & 59. (He was a POW in Crete 1941-45). He represented Otago in the late 1940s & early 1950s.
Lex MacDonald Trophy
This trophy is played for annually on the nearest Thursday to 29th April – Lex MacDonald’s birth date. The Trophy – a silver jug – was presented on 22 April 1988 and the first winner was Mr Ted Barringer. The competition is a Single Stableford and entry is available to all members over the age of 60 years.
Jack Matheson Trophy
Following his passing in 1987 – and in terms of his will, this "Fellowship Cup" was purchased and presented to the OGC to be played in November for players 60 years and over. The competition is a Single Stableford. Jack joined Balmacewen in 1970 and was a founding member of the Otago Veterans Golf Association. He was also an active and strong supporter of the Thursday "Vets" competition.
Balfour Ferguson Trophy
The trophy was presented by Balfour’s son Graeme to be played in September as a medal. Balfour was born in 1908 and lived virtually all his life near the Balmacewen course. In 1920, at 12 years of age, he caddied for Prince Edward the then Prince of Wales, on his visit to the Club. Balfour won the NZ Golf Championship Plate and was the Club Senior Champion three times.
Jim Gilkinson Trophy
Jim Gilkinson joined the Otago Golf Club in 1927, and continued his membership until the day of his death in September 1998. He was a member for 71 and a half years and is the longest recorded continuous member of the club. Jim left a sum of money in his will to purchase a cup to be played for annually for members over 60 years of age. This will be played on the first Thursday in June of each year as a Single Stableford.
Balmacewen Cup
This cup was presented to the Club in 1959 by Pip Wright and is open to all affiliated golfers in the Otago District age 50 and over on date of play. The competition is two rounds of stroke play, with a result being assessed on the BEST NETT SCORE returned. In 2010 this competition was split into 2 divisions: Division One handicap up to 24 (course) and Division Two, handicap 25 and over (course).
Mixed Tournament
Cook Cup
Presented in 1922 by Mr and Mrs J Cook. Mrs Cook was made a Life Member in 1941. Originally presented as a mixed tournament run in conjunction with the Otago Provincial Match Play Tournament, which was first played in 1908. Now played as an open mixed foursomes tournament.
Gamble Cup
Presented by Mrs J Gamble in 1953. Awarded Life membership in 1955. Played for by Otago Golf Club members only as a mixed foursomes medal.
Mid Winter Cup
Started by the men’s president, Mr P Hurst, and women’s Club Captain, Mrs V Berendsen, in 1992 as a social tournament between the two clubs. Played as a Canadian mixed foursomes on or near the shortest day.

Arthur Barnett Cup
Presented in 1904 by Mr Arthur Barnett. Match play on handicap between 12 members each from Otago and St Clair over three rounds.
Isa Mitchell Salver
Presented by Mrs I Mitchell in 1976. She was a member of both clubs and also a Club Captain of both clubs. Played as a medal competition.
